SU decreases extraction and increases profit

Sokolovska uhelna (SU) (Sokolov, Czech Republic), brown coal firm, increased its net profit by 9.3% to 167.3 mil Kc in 1998 compared to 1997. The company's coal extraction decreased by 2.8% and its solid fuel sales by 10.9% in 1998 compared to 1997, due to recession in the Czech industry. SU has a 20% share on the total Czech brown coal extraction market. Total Czech brown coal extraction decreased by 10.5% in 1998 compared to 1997. SU's revenues increased by 0.1% to 7.408 bil Kc and its total proceeds decreased by 215 mil Kc to 6.076 bil Kc in 1998 compared to 1997. The company's proceeds for electric power sales amounted to 2.374 bil Kc in 1998, 4.9% more compared to 1997. The firm will transfer 25 mil Kc from the 1998 profit to its social and reserve funds and 134 mil Kc will be left as a retained profit.

Zbrojovka Brno decreases its stock

Zbrojovka Brno (ZB) (Brno, Czech Republic), engineering company, has decreased its stock to 460.824 mil Kc compared to the former 781.041 mil Kc. The stock decrease was realised by the lowering of the nominal value of ZB's shares to cover a loss of 297.154 mil Kc for the last few years. The nominal value decreased from 1,000 Kc to 600 Kc. The company has been unprofitable since it was set up in 1992. It saw an operating loss of more than 41.7 mil Kc under proceeds of 521 mil Kc in 1998.

ABB Energeticke systemy (ABB ES) (Brno, Czech Republic), engineering firm, has been awarded a contract worth 4 mil USD in the UK. The firm will supply a turbo-generator and a condensing turbine with an output of 11.5 MW to Greater Manchester Waste (UK) for a waste incinerating plant in Bolton, the UK. The equipment should be commissioned in March 2000. The manufacturer should supply the equipment in October 1999.
